Pictorial Guide to Unzipping a ZIP File
The first box that pops up will be a notice, thanking you for your interest:
Click the "Setup" button to begin the installation. The next box will ask you where you would like the program installed. The default is on your C: drive, in the Program Files folder:
Click the "OK" button to begin the installation into this folder. You can also use the "Browse" button to select a different location, for example: if your embroidery files are located on a drive other than C: . For most situations, however, the default location is just fine for installation of the program.
When you press "OK", the program will install itself into the specified directory and the Welcome screen will appear:
Click "Next" to come to the License screen:
Read the licensing agreement by clicking the "View License Agreement" button, then click "Yes" to accept. This will bring up the "Quick Start" box:
This page will allow you to view and/or print the Quick Start guide to using the program. Click "Next" to bring up the interface selection page:
Options are given, detailing the features of both types of interfaces. For this example, we will be using the Classic interface. Select the interface you prefer, then click "Next". On the next page, select whether you would like the Express Setup (which is recommended) or the Custom Setup:
Selecting the Express Setup will automatically associate the program with zip files, create the program group and put program icons on the desktop and in the Start menu. Click "Next" to continue to the final installation page:
It is a good idea to keep the installation file, in case you ever need to reinstall the program. Click "Finish" to complete the installation. WinZip® is now installed on your computer!
Now that the WinZip® program is installed on your computer, you can use it to open any files with the extension .ZIP, including orders placed on and downloaded from www.embroideryonline.com. For this page, examples will be using a generic order number and the evaluation version of the WinZip® program. The first step is to locate your zip file and double-click on it. Because the installation of WinZip® automatically associates .ZIP formatted files with the program, the Unzip interface will come up on your screen:
From this screen, you can view the Evaluation License, enter your Registration Code to create a licensed version of the program, find Ordering Information, or open a zip file. Click "I Agree" to open your file. A new window will open, showing you the contents of your zip file:
For this example, we will only be detailing the features which pertain to the unzipping of Embroidery Online order files. Further explanation of other features can be found by accessing the "Help" file, or by visiting www.winzip.com. The above window shows that there are three files in the zip file which is named "ORDER123456789.zip". If you only want to extract and use certain files, click on those files to select them. If you want to select and extract all the files, do not click on any of them. Then click the "Extract" button:
A new window will open, asking you where you want to extract the files to:
In this example, the files are going to be extracted to the Desktop. To choose a different location than what is selected, you can either type the location on the "Extract to:" line or select the location under the "Folders/drives:" section. Once you have the location selected, click the "Extract" button:
If there are a large number of files, you may see a progress bar, showing the extraction process, but most of the time the extraction is done so quickly it doesn't register on the screen. Once the extraction is finished, the screen will return to the zip file contents page. Close this window, then use your Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder you selected during the extraction process. Your files will be waiting there for you.
