Cupid and Hearts Door Hanging

Cupid & Hearts Door Hanger
This heirloom door hanging will welcome guests or also look great decorating the back of your favorite teacher's chair! This is an easy project and you could personalize it just for your favorite someone. There are 23 designs in the Cupid & Hearts Floral #80037 collection, including several appliqué designs.

Please read all instructions before beginning. All seams are 1/4".

Supplies:

Cut:

  • Using different scraps or fat quarters of white and beige fabric – cut:
    • 4 - fabric pieces 10” x 14”
    • 1 – fabric piece 10” x 16”
    • 2 – fabric pieces 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"
    • 1 – fabric piece 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" (I fancy cut this piece)
  • Fusible Polymesh Stabilizer – cut:
    • 4 - stabilizer pieces 10” x 14”
    • 1 – stabilizer piece 10” x 16”
    • Fuse to fabric before embroidering
  • Batting – cut:
    • 4 - batting pieces 10” x 14”
    • 1 – batting piece 10” x 16”
    • 1- size of finished Door Hanging after borders are added. (approximately 18 1/2" x 23”)
    • Hoop fused stabilizer fabric with same size batting.

Embroider:

*All embroidery was done in the large hoop with a 10” x 14” piece of fabric, except for design 80037-23 Be Mine which was done with a 10” x 16” piece of fabric.

  • 80037-01 Cupid with bow.
  • 80037-04 Cupid Flying Heart Appliqué.
  • 80037-09 Filigree Heart Appliqué . Reduce the design to 69%.
  • 80037-16 Tall Heart Flower.
  • 80037-23 Be Mine. Rotate the design and increase to 135%.

Assemble:

After embroidery cut the designs to:

  • 80037-01 Cupid with bow - 5 1/2" x 7 1/2"
  • 80037-04 Cupid Flying Heart Appliqué – 7” x 7 1/2"
  • 80037-09 Filigree Heart Appliqué – 5 1/2" x 7 1/2"
  • 80037-16 Tall Heart Flower – 8” x 7 1/2"
  • 80037-23 Be Mine – 6 1/2" x 14 1/2"

Using a 1/4" seam allowance sew:

  • 80037-16 Tall Heart Flower – 8” x 7 1/2" to 80037-09 Filigree Heart Appliqué – 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
  • 80037-01 Cupid with bow - 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" to 80037-04 Cupid Flying Heart Appliqué – 7” x 7 1/2".
  • Sew 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares on either shot side a fancy cut piece 2 1/2" x 3 1/2".
  • Sew this new piece to the 80037-01 Cupid with bow - 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" to 80037-04 Cupid Flying Heart Appliqué – 7” x 7 1/2".
  • Sew this piece to the 80037-16 Tall Heart Flower – 8” x 7 1/2" to 80037-09 Filigree Heart Appliqué – 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
  • Sew the new piece to the 80037-23 Be Mine – 6 1/2" x 14 1/2".
  • Use a decorative stitch to sew the seam right underneath the Be Mine piece.
  • Cut a scrap of red fabric smaller than 2” x 2” and ravel the ends. Use a button with Isacord 2320 to sew the button down on bottom right square of Door Hanging. Leave the tails long for a decorative look.
  • Add 2 1/2" borders to sides.
  • Add 2 1/2" borders to top. Door Hanging should measure approximately 18 1/2" x 23”.
  • Add lace around the borders using a small zig zag stitch.
  • Place 18 1/2" x 23” batting, top, and then backing together. Top and backing will be right sides together. Sew a complete around door hanging around outer edge using a 1/4" seam allowance.
  • Make a small cut in the backing fabric and turn inside out.
  • Press well.
  • Hand whip-stitch opening in back.

Your door hanging is complete!
