Tis the Season for Freestanding Lace

No matter what time of year it is, Christmas is always around the corner. Do you have your gift giving list started? Completed? One gift idea is a freestanding lace embroidery project. Let’s take a look at some of OESD's Freestanding Lace and Applique embroidery collections to stitch for gifts or decorating ideas.

One of the newer collections, FSL Mistletoe #12551, would make a great decorating idea. And you can pull it out anytime, since it won’t go bad. It is simple to make, and the only supplies needed are wash away stabilizer, embroidery threads in reds, yellows, and greens, floral wire and tape, and ¼” red ribbon. This is an easy one to cross off your Christmas list.

Another collection is the Freestanding Applique Angel #61047-900. It is a beautiful, glitzy appliqued angel, which uses white satin fabric for the applique fabrics. She also features crystal glitz glued to the fabric. Grab your wash away stabilizer, white embroidery thread, white satin fabric and some crystal colored glitz, and start stitching. She would make a fabulous tree topper gift.

The Freestanding Gingerbread House #12512 is a charming project. It requires a bit more time to stitch out all of the pieces, but it is well worth it. Be sure to follow the instructions for making the pieces sturdier by using 2 layers of heavy weight stabilizer or sticky back cut away stabilizer on the wrong side of your applique fabrics. You can also watch our recorded webinar, Freestanding Lace Applique Tutorial, for additional information. The Gingerbread House is so colorful and will be lots of fun stitching and putting together. This could be a family project!

For those who have had a new baby in the family, take a look at Baby’s 1st Christmas #12537. There are several fabulous designs and projects in this collection. The 1st Christmas Ornament FSA (#12537-12)  is adorable and a breeze to stitch out. Choose your fabrics and colors of thread or go with the suggestions in the thread chart. Use wash away stabilizer, fabrics, embroidery threads, and something to use for a hanger - like ribbon. This will be a treasured gift for the new one in the family.

The Freestanding Applique Sleigh #61049-900 is a great holiday decorating project. There are 11 designs to complete the sleigh and 3 different reindeer designs. It requires fabric for the applique, embroidery threads, wash away stabilizer, and ribbon to use for the reins. Complete instructions are included in the collection.

How about some Christmas ornaments and banner? The Holiday Ornaments & Charms #12469 embroidery collection offers 20 different designs to create and build your own freestanding lace ornaments, and even includes a triangle-style banner. The individual pieces can be stitched in any colors you choose. The ornaments make great gifts, so stitch them in the recipient’s favorite colors. Add some of the charms to the banner for adorning. It is an extra ordinary design collection to create unique ornaments.

A beautiful and elegant gift idea is the Freestanding Lace Cross #12453. This collection is wonderfully created with satin fabric applique and embroidery thread. Use the same thread in the bobbin as in the top. You can also stitch this in different colors like pink for a little girl’s room. A blank hanging plaque applique is available for hanging on the finished cross to indicate “In Memory” or for a special event and date. Just add the information to be stitched out last. A charming addition is a small freestanding lace cross charm is included in this collection for a bracelet or necklace.
