Kitchen Recipe Hanger

Use this handy holder to keep your recipe clean and in sight! Just hang from a knob or tie through a cabinet handle.

Embroider the front:

Use chalk or a water-soluble marking pen to mark a vertical line down the center of the 12” x 12” piece of white quilted fabric.

Draw a horizontal line 4 1/2” down from the top of the fabric.

Cut two 12” lengths of StabilStick CutAway Stabilizer.

Peel the backing from one of the pieces and apply the sticky side to the wrong side of the white quilted fabric.

Peel the backing from the other piece and apply the sticky side to the stabilizer.

Hoop the stabilizers and quilted fabric. Use your hoop’s template to center the marked horizontal and vertical lines of the fabric in the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine, select the chef design, and stitch the 1st guide stitch.

Remove the hoop from the machine, but DO NOT remove the fabric from the hoop.

Cut a square of fabric slightly larger than the square made by the guide stitch.

Spray the back of the square with 505 and place the WRONG side down over the guide stitches in the hoop.

Reattach the hoop to machine and stitch the second color change (the Applique Cut Guide).

Remove hoop from machine, but DO NOT remove the fabric from the hoop. Cut away the excess fabric from the outside the applique cut guide stitches.

Return hoop to machine and finish stitching out the design.

Randomly stitch wording designs onto the piece. Rehoop as necessary. Keep wording designs within an area 1 1/2” on either side and 4 1/2” below design.)

Remove the hoop from the machine and the embroidered fabric from the hoop. Clip thread tails, but DO NOT remove the stabilizer from the back of the design. It will remain to give the project added stiffness.

Trim the embroidered square to 7 3/4” x 10”.

  • Draw a horizontal line 1” above the top of the design.
  • Draw a vertical line 2” each side edge of the design.
  • Draw another horizontal line 10” below the top horizontal line.
  • Cut along the drawn lines. (The rectangle should now measure 7 3/4” x 10”.)

Place one long edge of the 7 3/4” x 4 1/2” vinyl inside the fold of the bias tape. DO NOT PRESS VINYL.

Stitch along the fold through all layers.

Use 505 Temporary Adhesive Spray to adhere to the 7 3/4” x 10” black quilted fabric to the embroidered 7 3/4” x 10” white fabric with wrong sides together.

Place the vinyl pocket on top of the embroidered front with the unbound edge of the vinyl along the lower edge of the front.

Baste 1/4” away from all four outside edges.

Apply the bias tape around all four outside edges and stitch in place mitering corners. HINT: Spray the inside of the bias tape with 505 before wrapping around the edges for pinless stitching.

Tuck in the short ends of an 18” length of bias tape. Edgestitch along both ends and the length of the bias tape.

Fold in half and place the fold in the center of the back side of the holder. Stitch in place.

Tie a knot and hang from a knob, or place the ends through a cabinet handle and then tie the knot.
