Instructions

Adhere tearaway stabilizer to exterior fabric and embroider the chosen design. Be sure to leave approximately a 2 - 3" around design for cutting to size after embroidering. You may choose to embroider both exterior pieces or just one for this project. Use your OESD Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth to enhance your stitching and eliminate puckers.

Cut 2 of each of the fusible woven cutaway, lining fabric, and exterior fabric: 6" wide x 4.5" high. Cut a piece of exterior fabric: 1.5" x 4" (use scraps).

Take the 1.5" x 4" piece of fabric, fold in half lengthwise. Open fabric, fold raw edges to center (fold). Press Fabric. Then fold the fabric in half, yielding a 0.38" x 4" piece. This is will be your zipper tabs. Press fusible woven to exterior pieces.

Prepare zipper. Trim zipper end just in front of the large zipper stop. Sandwich zipper tab over cut end and sew close to the edge.

Trim fabric close to the zipper tape. Measure zipper 5" from the end you just sewed. Trim carefully and make sure the zipper head is back far enough to not fall off (you’ll have to start over with a new zipper, if so). Sandwich remaining zipper tab fabric over the freshly cut zipper and sew. Trim fabric from zipper tape.

Center zipper onto an exterior fabric piece (right sides together) and sew ¼" away from the edge using a zipper foot. Repeat with remaining exterior fabric piece on the other side of the zipper.

Take a lining piece and place it right sides together with the exterior piece (zipper will be sandwiched in between). Sew on the same line from the previous step and repeat the for remaining lining piece.

Press fabrics with wrong sides touching (zipper tape is sandwiched between) and topstitch seams on both sides of the zipper.

Unzip the zipper. With right sides facing. Put exterior pieces together and lining pieces together. Pin, leave an opening in the lining for turning. Using a ¼" seam allowance, sew, backstitching at the beginning and end.

Carefully clip all four corners to reduce bulk. Pull bag through the lining and gently poke out corners. Finish zipper bag by hand or machine-sewing opening closed. Give your bag a good press and it’s ready to fill with goodies!
