Easy and Quick Quilt

This easy quilt can make a very fast baby gift or a quick topper for a seasonal table – customize your colors to match! We embroidered this project using the designs from OESD’s Delicate Stitch Quilting Designs by Sharon Schamber #48160. The finished project is about 40” square.

  • OESD’s Delicate Stitch Quilting Designs by Sharon Schamber #48160
  • Fabric (our sample is from Benartex):
    • Four - 8 7/8” X 8 7/8” medium print fabric for star points
    • Two - 8 7/8” X 8 7/8” dark print fabric for accent
    • Six - 8 7/8” X 8 7/8” light print fabric for background and center
    • Four – 8 1/2” X 8 1/2” light print fabric for corner squares
    • Four – 4 1/2” X 45” fabric for border
    • One – 2 1/4” X 180” fabric for binding
    • One - 42” X 42” fabric for backing
  • One - 42” X 42” batting
  • Isacord Embroidery Thread
  • Mettler Silk Finish cotton thread for piecing
  • Organ Embroidery Needles
  • Temporary Spray Adhesive

NOTE: Stitch all seams using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Press each seam toward the dark fabric or press open.

To create the half-square triangles, place right sides together of each medium and dark fabric with a light fabric. (You will have six pairs or sets.)

On the light fabric, mark a diagonal line from one corner to the other.

Stitch on each side of the diagonal line. Repeat on all six pairs.

Cut each apart on the diagonal line.

Press the seams to the darker fabric, and trim to 8 1/2” square.

Assemble the quilt top in rows.

The top and bottom row will have an 8 1/2” light square on each end.

Using the picture as an example, construct the other three rows. Stitch the rows together to complete the top.

Stitch the border strips on all four sides.

Very lightly spray the batting with Temporary Spray Adhesive.

Layer the quilt by laying the backing right side down, batting and the top right side up.

The batting and backing will be larger than the top at this point.

Choose the embroidery design of your choice to stitch in the center square and in each corner square. In the center square, the center of the seams will be the center of the design.

In each corner square, mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on each side. Where the lines intersect will be the center of the design.

Carefully hoop the three layers of the quilt as one. Use the hoop grid to keep the center straight.

Attach the hoop to the machine, embroider the design of your choice.

Remove the hoop from the machine and the quilt from the hoop.

Use a sewing machine to add additional straight-line quilting. We “stitched-in-the-ditch”.

Fold the 2 1/4” X 180” binding strip with wrong sides together and press.

Place the binding along the front lower edge, matching the raw edges of the binding with the raw edges of the quilt top and stitch in place on all four sides.

Trim the excess batting and backing to the same size as the quilt top.

Wrap the binding to the back of the quilt and stitch in place by machine or by hand.
